Inspiration Monday : A little bit random
How is it Monday already?!? This weekend flew by, but maybe that’s because I worked a gazillion and a half hours!
For today’s Inspiration Monday, I’m deciding it is a little bit random, [which is pretty much my style], but for this week – it fits. I’m going to share a sneak of a card I’m in the process of making and then tell the story of how it came to be.
So the other day while on Facebook I saw a friend’s status about their excitement over the fact that Netflix is now going to be featuring the entire series of Friends. My friend mentioned that they already owned all ten seasons on DVD [as do I], but the excitement over the instant streaming was pretty intense.
Then, I saw this quote floating around Pinterest:
“Having a soulmate is not always about love. You can find your soulmate in a friendship too.”
It really resonated with me. I was fortunate enough to become friends with some pretty amazing people while I was at Mount Union. Two girlies I would even consider as close as sisters. And while we’re separated by more than a handful of states [one’s in Florida and one’s in Kentucky] I know that no matter what, I can pick up the phone and I know they will be there. No matter what. That’s a pretty amazing thing.
This weekend also happened to be Mount Union’s Homecoming. I haven’t been back since I graduated and I got to thinking that sometimes graduation is just like a bird losing their feathers. We all spread out, carried by the wind. Things will never be the same again. Then, I remembered that I recently purchased this die from Paper Smooches and I sat down to make some pretty special people a couple cards.
And what resulted is the photo above. I’m not showing the card in it’s entirety because some things need to be a little secretive. However, the chain of events from reading the Facebook status to seeing the quote to thinking about amazing friends- it’s all pretty inspirational. You can find inspiration anywhere and it can strike at any time. I’m a firm believer in this.
The bottom line is this: take a look around, soak in the world around you. And then, tell the people you love – that you love them. It’ll make you feel good and it’ll make them feel good. It’s a win-win.
As for how I went about making the card, [because from what you can see, you can tell it is awesome], I die cut the feathers three times [totalling six feathers] but I only used five. You know me and my thing about odd numbers. Then, I stamped five different colors of ink onto a craft mat. I used a waterbrush to pick up the color and I brushed it right onto the feathers, making one end a little more color intense and slowly fading out. Once dry, I went over them with a Wink of Stella glitter pen and they shine AMAZINGLY. [Being someone who pretty much despises glitter, I have to admit that this pen is awesome!] Then I die-cut the word “friends” out of black cardstock and I stamped below it, slightly overlapping the feathers, the main sentiment “make the world beautiful”. I lifted the tops and bottoms of the feathers up a little for some dimension and I love the way the sentiment overlaps. Looks totally awesome in real life. Hopefully some friends think so too.
Come back tomorrow when I recap some recently listed items from the Etsy Shop! [And seriously, tell a friend how much appreciate them!]
