One Stamp – Three Ways : Happy New Year
Today I’m using one stamp from a new set on three different cards. I love the way that this set [and most from Papertrey Ink] have so many options. The set is called Happy New Year and has a few sentiments as well as a plethora of stars and images.
On my first card I chose to use the strip of triangle stamps and I inked them up with two different inks, forming an ombre color scheme shades of green. To the left of the triangles, I stamped the numbers 6 through 1 as if in a countdown at midnight. In black ink under the triangles, centered on the card is the sentiment “happy new year”. The stamp that I’m using on all three cards is actually on the inside of this card.
I like to spread the message as far as I can, so when I can stamp in the card and have it coordinate with the front, it makes me happy. The inside reads “dream big this year” and while it’s perfect for this New Year’s themed card, it’d also be great for a birthday, or an encouraging congratulations card. The card base is a bright green color and coordinates with the color of the ink on both the front and the inside of the card.
On the second card I was still in the mood for ombre, so I continued this trend but with a different color scheme. I started with a bright pink ink and stamped a star, but before re-inking it, I stamped again so that the ink was softer and more subtle. [This technique is called second generation stamping.] I worked in a somewhat circular pattern and worked outwards from the middle of the star cluster. I used a couple different colors of pink and with the second-generation stamping, the colors really blend together. I used the smallest star stamp and stamped a couple times in black ink to tie into the black on the sentiment.
Here’s a detailed shot where you can really see the second generation stamping and the sentiment. I love that the font isn’t super linear – I feel like it adds an element of playfulness. For that reason, I didn’t stamp the sentiment in the center of the card-it’s slightly to the right side but it still overlaps the squall of stars.
On the third and final card, I used the main sentiment along with a supporting sentiment. I also used those stars again, along with a clock face and the year stamp . The supporting sentiment reads “out with the old and in with the new” and it’s stamped above the sentiment “dream big this year”. There’s a smattering of stars in both blue and orange inks. I also used the second-generation stamping technique on this card as well.
I mentioned that I stamped a clock face and I’m aware that in the first photo it isn’t super visible. It’s very subtle, stamped in light grey ink to the right side of the card. It’s somewhat visible in the photo below. I always feel like blues and oranges compliment each other so it’s a color scheme that I turn to time and time again. Everything is stamped on a white panel that is elevated off of the light grey card base with pop dots.
That sums up all three cards for today. I used the same stamp on each card [as mentioned above and shown in the photos] but with the use of supporting stamps, each card has a different feel to it. It’s just another week of One Stamp – Three Ways.
I’ll be back tomorrow and I hope you’ll check back as well. Happy Wednesday!
