MFT : Sketch & Color Challenges
I’m excited today to share a couple of cards that I made for two different challenges, both sponsored/held by My Favorite Things and their new card challenges blog.
Their first challenge was a sketch challenge and sometimes I struggle using sketches because I like to interpret them in my own way, but for this one, I followed pretty closely. This was the sketch that was provided:
And here is my take on the sketch:
I’m sad to say that I don’t own very many products from MFT but am looking forward to adding to my arsenal. I also love that their products aren’t required [but are highly encouraged] for their challenges. Lots of companies require you to use their supplies in order to participate in their challenges and it’s a little discouraging if you don’t have them – at least for me. I’d rather be creative in any way I can.
Okay, notes aside, here are a few details on this card. I used supplies primarily from Papertrey Ink [because they are what I had on hand, and because I love them!] along with a new die cut from Lawn Fawn [the script word ‘love’]. I chose to use a couple shades of aqua along with a kraft and a chocolate brown. I feel like these colors compliment eachother so well and I often resort to using them. Plus, with a love-themed card I wanted something different than the standard red, pink & white. The kraft and white baker’s twine is one of my favorite elements on this card, but so are the tiny brown hearts. So that’s card one.
Card two was following the color challenge from MFT:
And here’s my take:
Once again, I used PTI supplies and tried to use colors that were as close as possible to those available from MFT. I think they turned out pretty close. [As an FYI I used Tropical Teal, Limeade Ice, Harvest Gold and Terracotta Tile]. The die-cuts are two newer sets that I recently ordered. The ‘hip-hip-hooray’ block is about 3×4 inches and while it will be perfect for adding to our Project Life album, I thought it would be even more perfect on this card that I made for Jon’s birthday earlier this week. I love the way that the stamp set allows you to fill in what you are hooray-ing for. Always a bonus to have supplies that are super versatile. Those tiny stars? They just might be my new favorite, especially since I can die-cut a bunch at one time.
I’ve posted both cards in the submission portions of the specific blog posts and I’ve had a blast checking out some of the other samples and entries that are there. There’s certainly a ton of talent and I’m really looking forward to participating in these weekly challenges.
On a side note – it’s completely awesome to me that my friend Laina [who helped me get hired at Archiver’s and then later connected me with Pulsar] is one of the main designers for this company. Her awesomeness is so inspiring and she’s just pretty much amazing. I kind of want to be her when I grow up.
I’ll let you know if I should happen to be randomly selected as a winner for either challenge. Fingers crossed for some exposure.
Tomorrow’s Wednesday and I’ll be back with the year’s first post of One Stamp Set – Three Ways. It’s using a new stamp set and I can’t wait to show it off! I hope you’ll come back and check it out!
