Showcase Tuesday : New PTI
It’s show & tell time!
The February release from Papertrey Ink is one of my favorites! It’s their anniversary month so they typically release a plethora of “extra” stamp sets with coordinating dies. I always have trouble narrowing down my selection and this past month was no different. Therefore, I went a little crazy. The products released were just too amazing to resist.
I’ve had the chance to play with a couple sets and today I’ll share three cards that I’ve made. The primary focus of all three cards is the die-cuts that I used, but the stamps are pretty amazing too! The photos are horrible and I know this, but as I mentioned awhile ago, I’m still working on trying to figure out lighting for the best views of cards. Hopefully this week I’ll have time to work on a proper set-up.
First up is this little gem:
In the early fall, PTI released a series of dies to create scenes inside snowdomes. These new dies will ideally work with the previously released set and I cannot express how much I love them. Here I used the background scallop, along with the clouds and one of the trees with the smallest hill. I die-cut the tree layer from both green and kraft and used a small pair of scissors to trim off the tree portion on the kraft layer to try and make it look a little more realistic. I’m not thrilled with it, but it’s a start. The sentiment is from a completely different set, but I love the way they can be used together. The stamp set is called Blue Skies, the trees are from the Scene It : Everyday set and the background clouds are from this set, conveniently called Skyscapes.
The second card is somewhat similar to the first card. I used the other half of the blue cardstock sheet for the base and I used some distress inks to blend the rays on the sun background layer. I have been itching to play more with my distress inks. I love so many of their properties and they’ve honestly been neglected for awhile. The hills were both cut from the same die-cut, but I chose to flip the lighter green layer [the background layer] over so technically it’s backwards. The bottom portion of the card features another sentiment from that awesome Blue Skies set, along with a die-cut from the Swoosh set. [I’ll have more with this set and coordinating dies tomorrow as well!]
For my third card [which was actually created for a MFT challenge!], I opted to die-cut the trees from black as if it were nighttime and all you could see were the shadows. I used the star background layer [from Skyscapes] and cut it from white cardstock. Then I went to town with a bunch of distress inks, blending and layering for the perfect combination of nighttime colors. I added shiny silver cardstock behind the stars to help them stand out. The vellum portion that’s sewn on the bottom is also brand new and completely awesome. It’s got a subtle white star pattern and is the perfect weight for adding details. I added the sentiment from an older PTI set, Star Gazer Additions.
The design team from Papertrey Ink has fantastic ideas and their Pinterest Board is awesome for inspiration. It’s usually what dooms me come release time, because their samples are so incredible I feel I have to have every new set! I have so many ideas for these new dies & stamps that I picked up, I can’t wait to have a bunch of time to spend in the office creating! Hopefully this week!
I’m also hoping to catch up on our Project Life Album this week! I’ve got LOTS to journal about and I have a stack of freshly printed photos – now all I need is some time! For now, I’ve got a little work to do for a client and then it’s time to relax a bit. Thanks for stopping by!
