Back when I met Jon and we started dating, he would routinely surprise me with little things on Thursdays as he declared “Happy Thursday!” It could be something like tickets to a game or a new purse I’d had my eye on or something small like a bag of Skittles. Regardless, it always made me super happy.
Today I want to share a couple things in the spirit of “Happy Thursday” that are currently making me smile.
First up is a nail polish color. This may seem somewhat trivial, but I kid you not, it’s amazing. It’s called Light My Sapphire from OPI and I am in love with it. Getting my nails done is one thing I splurge on every couple weeks. Usually I opt for a simple French Manicure, but this week I was feeling bold and went with this color. I don’t notice the subtle silver sparkle that it’s described as having, but I will agree that it’s so dark it’s almost black. And now that I know it’s available from Amazon? Game on.
The next thing came to my attention in a round-a-bout way. Somewhere, somehow I started following this amazing artist on Instagram. Her name is Kal Barteski and SHE. IS. AMAZING. So incredible. Here’s a link to her website which I warn you, might suck you in for hours. Her handwriting is downright gorgeous in this fabulously scripty way. I envy her talent so, so much. It seems like every single day I’m saying “wow” literally out loud in response to something she posts on Instagram. So awhile ago she started designing for this company called walk. in. love. I fell in love with one of the sweatshirts that I saw and earlier this week I decided to order it. It just speaks to me. I gifted it to myself with the help of what I refer to as “grandma money” because I think it’s something she would have enjoyed as well.
Here’s what it looks like:
And here is where you can purchase one for yourself [or a friend!] There are so many other items that I am adding to a mental wishlist as well! Such awesomeness, along with a great company. They also have an awesome app called VRSLY which I downloaded – they feature an inspirational quote every day. It also gives you the ability to manipulate and alter the backgrounds that are provided – or you can use your own photo. Completely awesome.
Here is today’s which was perfectly fitting for the day that unfolded:
And here’s the link to their Instagram feed which is completely inspiring. You should check it out. I’m not overly religious but I do have quite a bit of faith and I feel like many of these just speak to me. I can’t explain it.
So I was in office last night and I got to crafting with some new supplies [surprise, I know] and I made this card for the mister.
He has been so incredibly awesome the last 26 days while I haven’t had a voice. He’s been super supportive and understanding while I’ve fought back tantrums and breakdowns. I used a stencil from Simon Says Stamp along with a die-cut and a plethora of Tim Holtz distress inks. I love blending the colors together – and as I mentioned in my earlier post, I am loving the rainbow and ombre effects! I stole an idea from Jennifer McGuire which was to use funfoam behind the card front instead of foam adhesive and it turned out really well.
Here’s a close-up of the subtle sparkle and shine on the card:
So, so awesome.
I’m thinking I also need to make one of these cards for the doctor that I saw today at the clinic who FIXED MY VOICE! He brought it back from the non-existence that has been for the last 26 days. He was incredible. Unlike the other specialists and doctors I’ve seen, this gentleman was not a medical doctor, but a true voice specialist. I was in his office for an hour today and within half an hour he had me talking like I used to with no significant problems. I cannot rave enough about him. I’m absolutely amazed at what he was able to do. He massaged my vocal cords and physically moved my voicebox through some different exercises. Plus, he taught me a couple new things that I can do at home to help assure my voice stays the way it is supposed to. I could not be happier and more relieved that it’s not a permanent problem. And like I said, he was incredible and so, so nice. So yay for that.
Overall it’s been a successful day. And a very Happy Thursday! Hopefully your day has been pretty amazing too! I’ll be back tomorrow with a recipe for a cookie that my friend described as being “life-changing”!
