Try … [and color inspiration week one]
Happy New Year!
2017 is under way and I’m pretty excited about it!
Quick back story — when I was a kid growing up, our church did this thing on the first Sunday in January. There were little paper stars that had a word written on them and they were upside-down inside the offering plate. They got passed around and you took a star – we called them Epiphany Stars and then the idea [as far as I know] was that you would let that word guide you through the year. I only remember a few stars and that they came at good times.
Fast forward to the magic idea inspired by Ali Edwards of “one little word” – where you choose a word and let it guide you or inspire you throughout the year. She even has a workshop and online class revolving around the idea of OLW [one little word] but I’ve never taken it. For several years now I’ve tried to think of a word but haven’t done much with it after January. This year I think will be different. People often say that you don’t choose the word, but rather the word chooses you.
I was sitting in my office/studio/crafty space yesterday [on January 1] and looking around [at so many projects that need to get finished and at new products waiting to be used and at the mess that needs to be organized] and out of the clear blue, the word “try” came to mind.
So many things that I want to try! New techniques and new skills I want to learn. I want to try to be better at so many things. And so I feel that my word found me this year. I might even look into Ali’s workshop!
One of the main things I want to try is getting better at blogging. Two years ago I got into a really good rhythm of posting and staying on track with topics for daily posts. Last year I failed miserably at posting. Miserably. When I make time to be crafty I feel inspired to share the things I’m making and the excitement I have for it. The opposite is true too-when I’m not being super crafty I have no motivation to blog. It became an ugly cycle last year. I wasn’t crafting so I wasn’t blogging and then I was getting mad at myself for not blogging or crafting and so on and so forth. So this year, I want to try to get back to a schedule. Even if it isn’t as regular as before or as on topic, I want to try.
Here’s hoping I can stick with it! Maybe you’ll stick around too to keep me company!
One of the other things that I would like to do is take some inspiration from Pinterest for some weekly crafting! My board, Color Inspiration is one of my favorite boards. Each week I want to focus on a new color scheme and making something using it. It might be a card or a piece of art or maybe even a new crochet project. [Oh that’s right, I taught myself to crochet. At least a little bit. I’m still learning. Or trying to.]
This is my color inspiration piece for week one:
I just really like the way that the aquas play off of the light grey and the melon-y color. I think it is fresh and clean and it just makes me happy. Stay tuned for what I make – I’ll share it later this week!
Thank you for stopping by and for sticking with me through this crazy journey!
